Thunder 13 y/o male black Lab, 68 lbs, neutered

Background: Thunder was brought to the Yolo County shelter to be euthanized. The shelter felt there was a better option, and they reached out to us to take him in our program. We would love to get him into a foster home en route a soft landing with an awesome adopter.

What Shelter's says about Thunder: We had been working with Thunder's owner for weeks in efforts to make sure Thunder received the proper care and medical attention. Thunder's owners opted to surrender Thunder to our shelter. Upon intake, it was noted that Thunder suffered from a large ear hematoma, ear infection as well as severe flea dermatitis. Thunder was treated by our medical team for drainage of the hematoma as well as cleaning of the ears. Thunder has been placed on numerous medications to aid his infection and skin.

Thunder is very friendly. When on leash Thunder tends to walk in every direction and never stops walking. Thunder was strictly an outside dog so is very happy to be inside out of the elements. We are looking for a rescue to help him enjoy his senior years.

What our evaluator Says: What a nice dog. Friendly, engaging. A bit stiff legged but is able to get around pretty darn well. Accepted a hug without reservation. Not a frantic eater like most Labs. Quite calm and mellow. Curious about other dogs; more interested in the people.

What Lab Rescue Says: Just an old guy looking for a place to relax and finish out his life. Pretty darn active for an older guy. Best that he go to a home with few steps. Would probably love a few 15-minute leash walks each day. Unknown if he is house-trained. Time for some indoor rest and relaxation, good nutrition, fish oil, ongoing skin care.

Medical: Current on vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered. Heartworm negative. Recovering from long-term ear infection (especially left ear) and severe flea dermatitis. Some worn teeth.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
