Tessa 6 years old, 88 lbs Yellow Lab, Spayed

Background: Tessa has lived with her current family, including 2 teenagers, for 2 years. The family also has another female dog and recently the two are not getting along so they have made the difficult decision to rehome Tessa.

What Tessa's Owner Says: Tessa is a loving, people‑oriented 6‑year‑old, spayed Lab who thrives with human companionship. She enjoys swimming, playing catch (especially when you toss her toy into the water), and she never turns down a good game of tug‑of‑war — she’s a strong, enthusiastic opponent. She gets excited on walks and pulls on leash, but with consistency she can improve.

She is potty trained, affectionate, and bonds closely with her people and has excellent manners in the home:
• Never food aggressive
• Takes treats gently
• Can be left inside the home all day without issue
• Has never chewed anything that wasn’t hers (she does best with durable toys)
• Loves to sleep in and relax with her family

Tessa must be placed as an only dog. She has shown incompatibility with other dogs in her current home, but she is wonderful with adults and teenagers. She has not been around young children recently. We are seeking a good home where she can feel secure, decompress, and be someone’s devoted companion.

What Tessa's Rescue Rep Says: Tessa is an energetic, happy dog who loves to play, especially in the water. Although she likes walks, she does need some leash training and will pull you along. Once she's had some exercise, she can be calm in the house and will settle for some good naps. She can be selective with the dogs she likes and will let you know when she's not comfortable with another dog.

We're looking for a home where she can get regular exercise and she's not left home alone for long periods of time. Ideally a backyard where she can stretch her legs and a family that can take her for walks. Her new owners will need to be dog savvy and understand that Tessa may not enjoy the company of all dogs she meets and so slow introductions will be necessary. Older kids will be ok, but unsure about cats.

Medical: Tessa will be heartworm tested and updated on vaccines in a week. She may have a bit of arthritis as she limps a bit when she runs around a lot.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
