11-year-old female black Lab "Scarlet"

Background: Scarlet Begonia was recently surrendered to San Francisco Animal Care and Control as her owner was living in a hotel and feeling quite overwhelmed by the number of animals she had.  Scarlet previously lived with a big ol' pile of chihuahuas and their puppies - she was queen of the littles!

What the Shelter Says: This frisky, bouncy senior gal passed behavior here with flying colors and did great on her dog/dog testing as well - she even had a funny little play session with a bouncy terrier today.  She unfortunately boasts some pretty rotten teeth, which is why we're not able to make her available with us at this time.  Scarlet Begonia loooooves people and is such an easy keeper.  She's stair capable and a total heart stealer.  I think she would waddle into the palace and pluck the crown from whomever is currently wearing it on their head - she's just got that special joy to her!

What Scarlet's Evaluator Says: Scarlet is a senior dog who is curious of her surroundings, but she is not interested in toys. The shelter named her Scarlet, so she does not yet know her name. Scarlet seems to walk really well on leash. She follows well without pulling. Scarlet knows to sit for a treat. She’s very calm when responding to commands. Scarlet is very gentle and allows physical examination without any problem. Scarlet is not interested in toys or balls.

What Scarlet's Rescue Rep Says: What a lovely senior gal.  Would do fine in a home with other dogs that are gentle with her.  Not a couch potato; she would love to go on daily walks around the neighborhood.  No idea how she would be with cats.  Should be fine with small children.

Medical: Scarlet is in pretty darn good health for her age.  Fully vaccinated and spayed and microchipped.  Still needs a heartworm test.  We will be getting her some needed dental work.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
