Rocket, 3 yr old, male chocolate lab, 65lbs., neutered is available for adoption

Background: Rocket is a handsome chocolate Labrador, just under 3 years old and about 65 pounds. His family cares about him deeply but is preparing for a new baby and knows they won’t be able to give him the time, structure, and activity he thrives on. They’re hoping to find him a home where he can continue to get the attention and engagement he deserves.

What Rocket's Foster Says: Rocket is a sweet, affectionate young dog who loves being close to his people. He has great manners in the home—he’s house-trained, doesn’t chew inappropriately, and settles well. He enjoys his dog beds, feels comfortable in his crate, and can be left alone for short periods.

He’s playful and enjoys toys, especially chasing a ball, and he engages nicely in play. He’s generally gentle but can be a bit mouthy when taking treats, so continued reinforcement of polite manners will help.

Rocket can be a little sensitive and is still building confidence, particularly around loud noises and new experiences. Car rides are not his favorite right now. On leash, he does fairly well overall but may pull when he sees other dogs due to excitement.

What Rocket's Rescue Rep Says:Rocket is a friendly, social dog who enjoys both people and other dogs. In busy environments he can become overstimulated and distracted, but once things settle, his affectionate and engaging personality really comes through.

He is food-motivated, knows basic commands like “sit,” and takes well to training, though he will benefit from continued work on leash manners and taking treats gently. He shows no signs of resource guarding and is comfortable being handled.

Rocket’s interactions with other dogs are enthusiastic but friendly, and he has lived successfully with both dogs and cats. He may pull to greet dogs on walks, so continued guidance will be important.

Overall, Rocket would do best in an active home that can provide structure, regular exercise, and ongoing training. Because of his size, energy, and occasional mouthiness, a home with older children is recommended. He would likely do well with another friendly dog and with adopters who can continue building his confidence and helping him mature into a well-mannered companion.

Medical: Rocket appears healthy, is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He will be going in soon for a wellness check and heartworm test.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
