Otto -- ~5-year-old male black Lab 60 lbs Neutered
Background: Otto's owner recently passed away... and, as there was no next of kin to take Otto, he and his two siblings landed at the Nevada County animal shelter. Ugh! They did not appreciate being locked up at the shelter. A local foster was able to take in Otto's two brothers, and we brought Otto into our program.
What Otto's Foster Says: Want your forever companion to you and your current dog? Otto is the absolute best!! He is 0% aggressive, 100% sweetheart – wanting to please, to be constantly stroked and praised. While very timid at first, he has warmed up beautifully to me and my 4-year-old lab in Grass Valley. We are seeing significant progress every day. While he does need to learn some manners (surfing counters and welcoming himself to the comfort of the couch…), Otto is a sensitive cutie who just wants to please. He has learned basic commands like “sit” and “come” and he is following the lead of the lab resident of our home. He is really starting to come out of his shell – wagging his tail, grabbing a toy, and playing with his foster buddy! He pulls slightly on the leash, but corrects very quickly and he has been staying close off leash as we walk around our two-acre property. So – not a “runner”. While he is taking cues and learning from our other dog, his main priority is being with his person. Given the experience at the kennel, he is not a fan of the crate (barks and scratches), but has done really well for 2-3 hours left in the house with our other dog. Otto is probably the sweetest adult dog I have fostered.
What Otto's Rescue Rep Says:Otto's ideal adopter is someone with another dog who can be a companion and training lead (no idea about cats), and someone who is around a lot to ease him into a new environment. Patience will be key as he will need gentle and affirming training and correcting. He will be a sweet, loyal and faithful companion. Might be a great dog for a family with children.
Medical: Otto appears to be in fine health. Vaccinated, neutered, microchipped. Negative for heartworm.
