Video: Oobleck

Oobleck 7-month-old, 50-lb male Black Lab, Neutered, recovering from broken pubic and tibia bones

Background: A good Samaritan brought this injured dog into Sage Concord a few days ago. No collar ID and no microchip -- no one came looking for the pup. Sage determined that the dog had "left SI luxation, right pubic bone fracture, left tibia fracture, minimally displaced". They performed the needed surgery and transferred the dog to the Martinez shelter on 29 Jun for the remainder of his stray hold.

What oshelter says: "Oobleck is a very sweet boy who despite his pain doesn’t stop wagging his tail. One of our staffers named him Oobleck" [Per Google, "Oobleck got its name from a book by Dr. Seuss, called Bartholomew and the Oobleck. In it, the oobleck is a mystery green substance that falls from the sky and sticks to everything.]

What Rescue Rep Says: Rest and relaxation for the next month or so is the doctor's order for Oobleck. A foster home with few steps to and from the backyard is needed. He needs to be kept calm with minimal exercise. Use of an x-pen will probably be beneficial to all. The presence of another older/calm dog should be fine. Cats that keep their distance should be fine too. Our vet advisors says, "He should do well with lots of TLC. As long as all nerve function is present in all 4 legs, he should do fine. Should be bouncing around in 3 months."

Medical: Wearing a leg splint/cast on his rear left leg now as he recovers. Taking pain/sedation meds. Current on vaccinations; getting chipped and neutered on Friday.

Located In: Contra Costa County Animal Services in Martinez

Our volunteers donate their personal time and phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
