Megan 1 year-old Black Labrador, Female, 53 lbs, Not Spayed
Background: Young Megan was surrendered to Oakland Animal Services after her owners failed to seek vet care for her leg. Clearly her back left leg has a condition that requires immediate vet care which she will now get.
What the Shelter Says: Megan is very sweet with people, lived with two chihuahuas and seems relaxed around large dogs. She does have a firm mass on her rear left leg that our vet thinks is osteosarcoma. Our vet will be amputating the leg with the intent to prevent the cancer from spreading.
What our Evaluator Says: Megan is an incredibly sweet girl. A gentle, affectionate soul. Takes a minute to warm up to you but then is a friend for life. Responsive to her name. Super chill. No food issues. Does fine with other dogs.
What Rescue Rep Says: We want to get Megan out of the shelter and into a foster home on Saturday or Sunday. Tripod dogs get around just fine. She had not been putting any weight on that rear left leg anyway, so she is already acting like a 3-legged dog. Presence of other dogs would be just fine.
Medical: Current on vaccinations. Amputation and spaying are scheduled for Thursday. Will be microchipped. She will be on a brief bed rest and recovery after her surgery but is expected to bounce back rapidly.
