Video: Kiara Playing in the Yard

Kiara: 8 year-old spayed female yellow Lab, 57 lbs

Background: Kiara was recently adopted from GGLRR. Her original family had elderly parents at home who needed constant care, in addition to having young kids. They no longer had time to spend with Kiara and get her out for walks, and wanted to see her go to a family who had time to give her the love and attention she truly deserves.

Kiara is enjoying some wonderful hikes and lots of love with her new family, but they are finding that life in a condo is just not suiting Kiara. She seems stressed in the condo and they've noticed how she is so much more relaxed and happy when they visit a friend's house where she has the ability to go in/out on her own and just hang out and chill in the yard when she wants. That seems to be Kiara's happy place. Condo neighbors have also not been thrilled about having a big dog (vs a small dog) around. Kiara's new owner has sadly come to the realization that as much as they love Kiara, their current living situation is not the best for her, and they are returning Kiara to GGLRR so we can find her a new home where she can truly thrive.

What Kiara's Original Owner Says: Kiara is a wonderful 8-year-old Labrador retriever. She’s always ready to play and has a friendly and playful nature, making her the perfect companion for anyone who loves the outdoors. Kiara loves the outdoors and enjoys going on walks and exploring new places. She is also very gentle, and used to being around kids and the elderly, making her an excellent family dog.

What Kiara's Rescue Rep Says: Kiara is a very nice dog. Her favorite activity is sniffing new places and smells, so she would do great with a family that likes to go on hikes and outdoor adventures. She also enjoys playing fetch with her favorite squeaky ball. She can pull a little when she is excited to go out at the start of a walk, but quickly settles into the rhythm of the walk. She can sometimes get growly when passing other dogs on-leash, but does well with dogs off-leash. She interacted politely with dogs of various sizes off-leash in a dog park when I met her. We want to see Kiara go to a home with easy access to a fenced yard where she can chill, hang out, and play.

Medical: Kiara is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and on preventatives. She is currently taking a thyroid medication (levothyroxine) for hypothyroidism. Her new vet has noticed a sialocele (swollen salivary gland) which may need surgical removal.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
