Honeybee's four Lab mix puppies: Three males and one female
Background: 3-year-old female chocolate Lab mix "Honeybee" was brought into the Modesto shelter on 16 July by a field officer. Per the activity report, Honeybee was at a fire department and getting in the way of operations; an animal control officer arrived to pick her up and bring her safely to the shelter. It was noted upon intake that she appeared to be pregnant. On 28 July this beautiful girl Honeybee brought her puppies into the world, in a noisy shelter kennel. We brought them into the Lab Rescue program in early August and placed them in a Tiburon foster home
What Foster Says: What a delightful puppy pile! They play hard and sleep great. Here are my thoughts for each pup:
- Chocolate male "Moose". Sweet big baby. Mama's boy. Super soft, longer fur, adorable face. Loves to be petted, snuggled, held. Barks when he wants love and is not with a person. Learning housetraining and doing well. Loves to eat. Playful but also sleeps hard. Gets along well with his bros and sis. Enjoys laying on cool grass in the shade.
- Chocolate female "Wren". Reminds us of her mom. Sleek, muscular, shorter fur. Affectionate, loves to be held and snuggled. Burrower. Likes soft beds and being cozy. Decent eater. Sleeps hard. Pretty easy going. Smart. Doing well with house training. Howls and yips if she wants out or wants attention.
- Black male "Bo". Smallest boy. Shorter fur. Super curious and spunky. Has adorable run and bunny hop. Fast! Barks to go potty in the middle of the night and is leader of housetraining! Loves to be held and snuggled as well as play with others and toys. Nurses and eats but not really food motivated. Smart.
- Black male "Finn". Longer black fur, super soft, big ears. Mostly mellow, but spurts of energy. Observant and a bit wary of new things. Watches his sibs before jumping in. Doing pretty well at housetraining. Enjoys being handled, snuggled, carried, etc., but only when he's up for it. Wriggles and thrashes if he wants down. Not super food driven. Not a barker.
What Rescue Rep Says: Cute is a complete understatement for these puppies. The adopters will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to full commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy training and socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but preferable. No other dogs in the home under two years old, please. Cats okay. The employment of a crate and exercise pen (x-pen) will be important too. Given they are not fully vaccinated, these puppies will be under home/backyard quarantine until late November (when they will get their third distemper vax.) We have no idea who the father of the puppies is.

Medical: These chunky-monkey puppies appear to be in fine health. Dewormed at four-weeks-old. First DHPP vaccinations are still a few weeks away.
