Franklin ~6 year-old male yellow Lab 65 lbs Not yet neutered
Background: Franklin was one of 50+ dogs recently removed from a hoarding situation. He, along with his former companions, were in pretty rough shape: flea dermatitis, major ear infections, infested with roundworms or tapeworms, embedded foxtails, filthy coats, badly worn teeth -- absolutely beyond bedraggled. We are thrilled to give Franklin and the other Labs some major medical care and long overdue TLC... and ready them for new (and outstanding) forever homes where they can thrive.
What Franklin's Foster Says: Franklin has arrived! With his beautiful block head, BIG teddy-bear paws, and gentle nature, Franklin has that classic English Lab/Guide Dog temperament. He’s a handsome boy, but at probably at 65 lbs - on the smaller side - he’s surprisingly easy to manage. He came to me housebroken and walks beautifully on a leash without pulling. He happily goes wherever my dog and I are going. He just loves to be included! He also settles down easily on a large dog bed beside my bed and sleeps through the night. His temperament is truly special. Franklin is soft, calm, quiet, and incredibly amenable to everyone. He didn’t understand children at first, but we’ve been taking him to the park every day and now he is quite comfortable with kids. He also seems indifferent to cats. Franklin has a good lab appetite, which has made it easy for him to overcome any hesitation around new social experiences. He takes treats gently with a soft mouth and in general, doesn’t need a lot of excitement or attention. He just loves the opportunity of chilling out near you. He’s also curious, and is in the process of figuring out what a tennis ball and plush toys are for. I think he would do well in a home with other dogs and adolescent/older kids.
What Franklin's Rescue Rep Says:Franklin has had a difficult life thus far... but his future is bright. We would welcome adopting out Franklin and one of his companions (Melodie, Betty Jo, Becky, Sally, Tala, or Lucy) together to the same family. Franklin gets along great with other dogs and people. Frankie must be the center of attention in his new forever home. Minimal steps and stairs would be best.
Medical: Current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative. Franklin is dewormed, de-flea'd, treated for an ear infection (fully recovered), and is getting baths with medicated skin soap. He is getting probiotics (OTC) and fish oil with his food. Will be neutering him down the road.
