Charlie: 3-year-old Female Yellow Lab, ~63 lbs, Spayed
Background: Charlie is being surrendered as she requires more activity and attention than her mom can currently give her. She is high energy and barks when she's left alone, and the neighbors have been complaining.
Here's what her mom says about Charlie: Charlie is a purebred American Lab; her dad was a championship hunter which explains her high energy. She's a very enthusiastic ball dog, loves walks on the beach, and loves to swim. She's very fast and agile. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time or energy for her. I have been out of town a lot. My husband is disabled and is unable to help with her on a daily basis like he used to. She is anxious and a little leery when first meeting new people. If there's a ball around, she can care less about other dogs, otherwise she will play with them. When she comes inside, she calms easily and likes to lay on the sofa and at night, she sleeps on my bed with me.
What Charlie's Rescue Rep Says: Charlie currently lives in a home in the Santa Cruz mountains. Walking up the driveway, she was engaged in a game of fetch and didn't notice either my husband, or me until we were within a few feet from her. She barked at us, but quickly went back to her game of fetch. She allowed all over handling and was much more fixated on the ball.
Although she is full of energy and will thrive with a job or purpose, she will easily calm and relax when she comes into the house. While she is a sweet companion, she may not be the best fit for a home with small children. Her current owner has noted that she has growled when startled by toddlers who have approached her unexpectedly.
Charlie has been socialized with another Lab (belonging to the son who visits weekly) along with friends' dogs on camping trips and beach outings. Cats are unknown. There are deer and wild turkeys that occasionally pass through, and she has barked at them.
We are looking for an active home where Charlie will receive the daily exercise and activity that she craves. A home where she won’t be left alone very much. She is a young, energetic girl, is very treat motivated, eager to please and would thrive in an active home with experienced owners who can provide her with training and exercise.
Medical: Charlie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on core vaccines, and has been heartworm tested.
