Bubba, 9-year Old Male Black Lab, Neutered, 80 lbs
Background: Bubba's main human recently passed away. His home consisted of her, her adult daughter and her family (husband, three children, and their dog). The daughter will be moving and is unable to take Bubba with her. Bubba has been with his family since he was a puppy. The son-in-law and one of the grandsons walk Bubba daily. Bubba is great with children and was raised with his mom's three grandsons who are now 13, 11, and 9 years-old.
What the family says: Bubba really is a great loving dog. He is hyper and needs to be walked! Since my mom passed we have to move and sadly we can’t take 2 dogs with us . Bubba is a big softy and a big teddy bear. He loves to swim, loves attention, and he is really good with kids . He is scared of fireworks and loud noises like that . He can be a big baby at times. We will truly miss him and just want his new family to love him like my children and I do and for him to go to a good home!
What the Rescue Rep Says: Bubba appears younger than 9, as he is quite energetic and strong. He allowed all over handling, with the exception of his ears which I didn't touch as I was told that he's prone to ear infections (from swimming). It's clear he's attached to his family and wanted to go inside to be with them. I walked him around the quiet residential neighborhood, and while he is strong on leash, it might be easier to walk him on a harness vs. the regular flat collar he was on. He didn't drag me down the street or zig zag, nor was he a constant puller, but he was strong and would regularly and briefly pull towards a bush or patch of grass. Bubba is crate and housetrained. He is reported to get into/onto things in search of food (e.g. garbage, counter surfer).
Bubba has been mainly socialized with the adult daughter's dog, an adult male Husky mix. We don't know how Bubba is around cats. We'd like Bubba in a home where he will receive lots of attention and exercise, not be left alone for long periods of the day, and one committed to making him a part of the family. He will require an active family who can keep up with his needs, someone steady on their feet. He loves to swim!
Medical: Current on vaccinations and neutered. Bubba has a couple of skin tags and a larger lipoma (fatty lump) on his chest. We will be scheduling Bubba for a general exam to include a heartworm test, microchip, and possible ear cleaning.
