Brody, 1+yr old black lab mix, ~47lbs, neutered is available for adoption
Background: Brody was found as a stray in Stanislaus County and was scheduled to be euthanized. At the shelter he was often used to test other dogs since he has such a friendly disposition. A good Samaritan notified us of the situation and we worked with the shelter to pull him and get him to a foster.
What Brody's Foster Says: Brody has been a wonderful guest in our home. He is incredibly sweet-natured and very intelligent. He gets along well with our own Lab and loves people. His favorite activity is to sit up on the dog sofa and chew a Nylabone while I watch TV with him.
Brody is not a big puller on walks. However, if he sees cats or squirrels, all bets are off! He definitely has a prey drive. Fortunately, because he is so small, he is still easy to hold onto. Brody sleeps very well in his crate at night, even sleeping through the entire first night he was with us. He may be a Lab mix (Border Collie?), but at mealtimes, he is 100% Lab :-) He dances around while waiting on his food. He is a young dog, without a lot of experience in this world. He can be spooked by unknown sights and noises, such as a neighbor’s Halloween decorations. He is currently learning basic obedience commands. Brody will give his new owner lots of love and bring much tail-wagging joy into their life. He is truly a darling pup. What Brody's Rescue Rep Says: Brody is a young, outgoing pup with a big personality and an eagerness to meet both dogs and people. We’re still getting to know him, but he’s already shown us that he’s a good-natured, playful dog who will thrive with guidance. Brody has plenty of youthful energy and will benefit from continued socialization, obedience training, and practice on leash manners.
He settles nicely in a crate, rides calmly in the car, and is making great progress with house training—no accidents so far. Like many youngsters, he loves to pick things up and chew, so supervision and chew-appropriate outlets will be important. He can get excited by fast-moving things, reacts to bicycles, and loves to chase squirrels, so homes without cats are best. Brody would be happiest with experienced adopters who can give him consistent structure, plenty of exercise, and companionship throughout the day. He’d enjoy having a friendly canine buddy, though his occasional mouthiness means he’s a better fit for homes with older children. If you’re looking for an energetic, lovable pup who’s ready to learn and grow with you, Brody might be the perfect match.Medical: Brody is neutered, up to date on vaccines and has been started on preventatives. He is being treated for tapeworm but otherwise healthy.
