Monza 8-year-old intact male chocolate Lab, 67 lbs
at fair

Background: A vet clinic in Pleasant Hill called us recently asking if we would be able to take this guy into our program. His owner was dealing with ongoing medical challenges and is unable to care for Monza. We quickly got Monza into a foster home where he is doing great.

What Monza's foster Says: Monza is a healthy chocolate lab, who is reported to be close to 8 years old, but seems much younger. He has lots of energy, a gentle mouth, and is very food motivated. He is very attentive and affectionate, eager to play, and eager to please. Monza is obviously quite intelligent and knows several basic commands (sit, stay, shake, lay down). His recall is inconsistent at this point, and he does not appear to have much leash training. But he is eager to learn. We have let him off leash outside our home, and he loves to explore but stays close and does not show any temptation to run off. As he is an intact male, we have been careful to avoid public dog parks; the limited interactions he has had with a few other dogs thus far are positive. In his new home, he will need plenty of exercise, a backyard in which he can run, and a couch to snuggle up with his family.

What Monza's Rescue Rep Says: The vet techs are the clinic thought Monza is an awesome dog. Monza would be a fabulous family dog with children and/or another dog. No idea how he would be with a cat. His energy level will necessitate an active adopter who is ready to provide lots of exercise and play time for Monza.

Medical: In good health. Current on Rabies and distemper vaccinations. Heartworm negative. Microchipped. Not yet neutered.

Located In: Larkspur

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
