Leo 8-10 years old, male yellow Lab, 75 lbs, neutered
Background: Found as a stray in Sacramento County. He was chipped and registered with the name "Yellow"... Attempts to contact his alleged owner came up empty. No one came to claim him and he has been chilling at the Bradshaw Animal shelter for a few weeks; he is ready to get out of there.
What our Evaluator Says: What a friendly guy! Appears to be pure-bred. Wanted to come right up into my lap. Nice soft mouth. Tail wags like a huge windshield wiper. Let me touch and squeeze him all over. Little interest in food/treats -- zero guarding. Clearly his sight is somewhat compromised -- he was bumping into various things. Loved playing with squeaky toy - just had some trouble finding it. Did fine with female yellow Lab mix "Amalthea". No real sense of what walking on a leash is all about.
What Leo's Rescue Rep Says: This senior gentleman still has a great pep step and is nicely settling into his foster home. Leo enjoys playing with his toys, he loves exploring the house and garden, hanging out with the other dog in the house and the family. Leo just really wants to be by your side and know where you are. Leo knows how to sit, shake, and lie down. He comes when called and he’s working on stay. Leo is potty and crate trained and is learning how to use the doggie door like a champ. He doesn’t let his impaired eyesight slow him; he walks nicely on a leash. He does bump into things but once he gets the lay of the land - he is able to navigate a room with efficiency. Leo is ready for his new home.
Medical: Current on vaccinations and microchipped. Heartworm negative. Neutered. We are getting him to an eye doctor soon to get those eyes checked out.
