Bear: ~4 to 5-year-old male black Lab mix ~80 lbs neutered

Background: Lab Rescue was contacted about this sweet boy by Deb’s Cruisin 4 Paws Road Rescue. His former owner was homeless and could no longer take care of him. Deb’s rescue took him in and here’s what they say about him: “his foster mom began teaching him the "heel" command and to sit when she stops; Bear picked it up by the end of their walk. Bear is an active boy; he loves to swim, play fetch, go for walks and ride in cars. He is dog-friendly with all balanced dogs big and small; he doesn't seem to mind cats. Bear has really thrived with structure...he likes a schedule. He is an extremely fast learner."

What Bear’s foster says: Bear has only been with me for a short time but has already stolen my heart. He is loving and goofy and always ready for a game of tug or another walk around the neighborhood. He likes to stay close, whether it’s in the house or outside and is generous with his kisses. He listens well, is a good sleeper (he is not crate trained but doesn’t need one). Bear has seen other dogs, cats and squirrels on our walks and is interested but doesn’t show any aggression or the need to chase them. He is the best of two great breeds. I believe that the family that decides to bring this awesome dog into their world will not be disappointed.

What Bear’s Rescue Rep says: Bear is a super sweet, happy dog, with lots of energy and love to give. He’s good with kids, good with other dogs, and a fast learner. He’s housebroken and settled in quickly to living with his two older female foster siblings.

We’d like Bear to go to a home where they will continue working with him on his transition from homeless pet to well loved family companion. We think he’d do well in any home that can provide him leadership, love, and exercise! He’s a big boy so kids over the age of 8 will do better with him. He needs regular walks, swims, energetic playtime or a combination to manage his energy and to work off some extra pounds he’s carrying.

Medical information: Bear is up to date on his shots, neutered, heartworm tested and on preventive.

Bear is located in: San Jose

Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
