Rosie: 2-year-old female chocolate Lab, ~65 lbs, Spayed
Background: Rosie was acquired from a breeder when she was a puppy. We would like to find a better home for Rosie. She's a good dog, but given my health and work status, it's becoming more difficult to provide the home that would ultimately be best for her.
She really needs a home that has a fenced in yard or a very active family. I walk her frequently, but it's increasingly hard for me to meet her needs. She really deserves better.
She's a bit submissive with other dogs but does well with other dogs when we use dog sitters. She's good on a leash and knows several commands such as heel, sit, come, etc. and is well behaved. She would thrive with someone that wants multiple dogs, a fenced in yard, and/or a very active owner.
What Lab Rescue Says: We had one of our volunteers go out and do her first evaluation for us. She is dog experienced and is a balanced dog trainer.
Here's what she had to say: Rosie is very high energy, overly excited, and was happy to see and greet me. She redirected her excitement by chewing on the leash. Rosie was initially hard to calm down but once I worked with her on the toy exercise, I was able to do the rest of the assessment fairly easily. I think she might guard toys and high value treats with other dogs. Her high vibration level makes me think she would accidentally nip in excitement with her toys so I would definitely say no small children plus her jumping when greeting needs to be worked on. She loves her crate and is kept in the kitchen area gated with an open crate when the family isn't home.
What Rosey's Rescue Rep Says: We are looking for an active home where Rosie will receive the daily exercise and activity that she craves. Our volunteer who met and evaluated her didn't come face to face with any other dogs when she met her, but there were dogs (one large and one small) walking about 10 feet away. Rosie showed interest but was not reactive. Due to her excitability and jumping when meeting people, we don't recommend a home with small children. With her excitement around toys, she will need to be trained to drop it. She is a young, energetic girl, is very treat motivated, eager to please and would thrive in an active home with experienced owners who can provide her with training and exercise.
Medical: Rosie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on core vaccines, and has been heartworm tested.
